Roof rejuvenation and warranty questions
Do not assume an older roof has no remaining coverage. Read the actual documents and check the exact treatment with the shingle manufacturer before making a decision.
Three different kinds of paperwork
Shingle warranty: issued by the shingle manufacturer, with terms tied to the product and installation.
Treatment-product warranty: any coverage offered for the treatment itself. It does not automatically replace shingle coverage.
Workmanship terms: the contractor's written responsibilities for the application. Ask who handles a claim and what remedy is available.
Duration alone is not enough. Read exclusions, transfer terms, maintenance requirements, and claim procedures.
Why compatibility needs a written answer
ARMA's technical guidance advises against field-applied coatings and rejuvenators over installed asphalt shingles and directs owners to consult the shingle manufacturer.
Calling a product a penetrating treatment rather than a coating does not, by itself, establish manufacturer approval or preserve coverage. Check the exact shingle and product combination.
Bring these to the assessment
- Shingle brand, product name, and installation date if known.
- Warranty documents and any registration record.
- Previous repair or treatment invoices.
- The proposed treatment's technical and application documents.
- Any written answer from the shingle manufacturer about compatibility.
Questions before signing
Ask who provides each promise, what event triggers a claim, what evidence you must retain, and whether labor and materials are both included. Ask how the proposed treatment affects existing coverage rather than relying on a general sales statement.
VRR's job-specific scope and terms belong in the written quote. This guide does not issue a new guarantee or interpret your individual warranty. If the manufacturer and treatment supplier disagree, resolve that before treatment.
