The soy-based treatment: product and evidence

Virginia Roof Rejuvenation uses SoyLei APEX-1132. Product identification, research findings, application instructions, and the result on your roof are separate things to check.

What product is being proposed?

SoyLei describes APEX-1132 as a penetrating treatment for suitable asphalt shingles, rather than a film-forming coating. That describes the intended treatment type, not approval for every roof.

Ask for the exact product and the current technical data sheet, safety information, and application instructions before work.

What research is available?

The published SESO-emulsion study reports shingle-property tests at different concentrations. Its findings should not be treated as a homeowner lifespan guarantee.

Our effectiveness article explains the difference between a laboratory measurement and follow-up evidence from an installed roof.

What a product label does not settle

A plant-derived ingredient does not remove the need for safe handling or product-specific instructions. Ask how the applicator will manage access, nearby surfaces, landscaping, and suitable weather conditions.

Do not substitute household oils, improvised mixtures, or generic coating directions for the manufacturer's instructions.

Compatibility and condition come first

ARMA cautions against field-applied rejuvenators on asphalt shingles. Confirm your shingle manufacturer's position and read the warranty questions.

A treatment is not a repair for missing shingles, leaks, or damaged decking. Check roof eligibility before comparing products.
